Team For A Cure proudly made a record contribution of $200,000 in 2025 to OSUCCC-James, supporting three pivotal projects that promise to advance life-changing cancer research. This significant funding will help move the needle in the fight against cancer, offering renewed hope to patients and their families. This achievement reflects the unwavering dedication of everyone who supported and participated with us throughout the year, demonstrating the power of community in driving impactful scientific progress.
Pickle CANCER $17K
Team For A Cure honored Sarah Hagan at the June Pickle for a Cure event. Diagnosed with breast cancer at age 35 in Fall 2023, Sarah received treatment at The James Cancer Hospital’s Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center. She completed treatment on August 2nd and rode 20 miles with Pelotonia the very next day—an inspiring testament to her strength. The event featured eight professional pickleball players and a referee at The Country Club at Muirfield Village, paired with a buffet by Chef Mike Koenig and plenty of exciting court play. On August 8th, Sarah presented a $17,000 check to Dr. Quiroga to support her and her research team’s project at The James, further advancing Team For A Cure’s mission of community-driven impact, education, and meaningful research funding.
GOLF FOR A CURE $33K
Team For A Cure proudly presented melanoma surgeon Dr. Joal Beane with a $33,000 check to support the vital research being carried out in his OSUCCC–James laboratory. These funds were raised during the July 2025 Golf For A Cure event at The Country Club at Muirfield Village, where 130 golfers came together in the spirit of finding a cure. Following the check presentation, Dr. Beane offered an engaging and insightful lecture, followed by an exclusive tour of his state-of-the-art lab in the Biomedical Research Tower. Presenting sponsor Bruce Daniels spoke to Team For A Cure’s commitment to providing direct, impactful funding for pioneering cancer research, and the ceremonial check was presented by Bruce Daniels, Jerry McKenna, and golf event chair Hank Fresch.
WINE FOR A CURE $150K
Team For A Cure hosted their annual Wine For A Cure event in September 2025 which included a lively Veuve Hour featuring a happy hour with sabering champagne, guests enjoying a raw bar, and browsing an enticing silent auction. Attendees savored Cakebread Cellars wines and a specially prepared meal by Chef Mike Koenig before hearing from an OSUCCC–James physician panel that shared insights into the challenges and emerging hope in Glioblastoma research. The evening also honored the inspiring legacy of Jim Ehret and concluded with an energetic live auction. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the event raised $150,000 for Glioblastoma research at OSUCCC–James, directly funding crucial preliminary studies and reinforcing Team For A Cure’s mission to make meaningful progress against cancer. We presented the check to Dr. Achayra and her team in November 2025.
